mother tongue by James Knight (Colossive Cartographies 25)

£2.00

“It struck me that there is something womb-like about the interior of the Cartographies series, so I’ve tried to create something that makes opening the piece up a slightly unsettling feeling, with the jagged edges and blood-like appearance of the reverse side.

“Within is a visual poem in which I explore notions of motherhood, with a particular focus on reproductive processes that still appear to me mysterious and astonishing, even with a modern education grounded in science.

“The poem is a sort of womb-as-generative space, in which fragments of language, logographic figures and biomorphs swirl in a disorientatingly huge yet enclosed space.”

James Knight is a writer and visual poet. Recent publications include Chimera (Penteract Press), Machine (Trickhouse Press), Rites & Passages (Salò Press) and The Murderer Threatened (Paper View Books).

A4, full colour, folded to A6.

Colossive Cartographies is an attempt to create the print equivalent of a series of 7-inch singles. Also available as part of a six-issue set (Series Five).
