Among the towns of Jutland, Viborg justly holds a high place… Near it is Hald, accounted one of the prettiest things in Denmark; and hard by is Finderup, where Marsk Stig murdered King Erik Glipping on St. Cecilia’s Day, in the year 1286. Fifty-six blows of square-headed iron maces were traced on Erik’s skull when his tomb was opened in the seventeenth century. But I am not writing a guide-book…

When a historian visits Denmark to undertake some research, he is surprised and alarmed by the appearance of a previously unseen hotel room next to his own…

A handmade edition of one of MR James’s most famous chillers, originally published in Ghost Stories of an Antiquary (1904).

Limited edition of 10 copies; 171mm x 111mm; handbound placket book with an original linocut on the cover. Produced by Tom Murphy.

A warning to the curious… This has been lovingly produced, but it’s not the work of a master craftsman. It’s my first ever attempt at linocut, and I learned the lovely placket binding technique as I went along on our dining table.
